Paugassett Lodge

Founded 1961

Paugassett Lodge #553 was founded in 1961 and was chartered to the Housatonic Council in Derby Connecticut. Most recently Paugassett Lodge was honored on a National Level twice for their community service efforts. They are the 1999 receipient of the Order of the Arrow National Service Award for the hard efforts in a community food drive. As well Paugassett Lodge won a national award in the 27th annual search for the country's best community projects by young Americans. The lodge and the Housatonic Council conducted a hugely successful food drive, and their actions have won high honors in the 2000 'Colgate Youth for America' campaign. The announcement was made in New York on June 1, 2000 by young cast members of 'Beverly Hills 90210.' This year's celebrity judging panel for the program encourages community responsibility in young people. The lodge received a third place prize and the proceeds will be used towards the costs of the Fall, 2000 Food Drive. Their hard work and dedication has truly made their council proud in recent months and they will continue to strive for excellence in the upcoming year. In 2001 Paugassett was recognized for their efforts to increase their effectiveness in promoting and increasing Scout camping within the Housatonic Council, with the E. Urner Goodman Camping Award.
